US Still in Major Battles over Online Gambling

Just when online casino players in the US think they may be getting somewhere with overturning the UIGEA (Online Internet Gambling Enforcement Act), the bill to legalize online gambling meets a new challenge.

Republicans, who are generally opposed to legalized online gambling, have been fighting this proposed bill since the idea was first brought up. They are targeting individual representatives who are in favor of legalized online gambling and basically blaming any personal or political issues on gambling.

The battle between those in favor of legalized online gambling and those opposed to it is a long one. Some believe that US citizens have the right to make their own decisions concerning online gambling while others believe that the temptation is too great and, if online gambling is legal, the US will see a huge spike in addiction cases.

Now that personal issues have been brought into the picture, Democrats and others who believe in legalizing online gambling must ensure that all representatives of their cause have an untarnished reputation.

It is important not to lose sight of the real issue- whether online gambling should be made legal in the US because both sides have legitimate claims. They are, however, using smear campaigns to make their opponents look bad. While this may work for some political issues, neither side is able to argue that this helps them keep US citizens’ best interests at heart.
