United States Senator Strongly Opposes Online Gambling

It is not a secret that the United States is torn between regulating online gambling and implementing the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA). Arizona’s senator is strongly opposed to online gambling and although he is not the only one who disagrees, he is drawing criticism from both the Conservatives and Liberals with his childish behavior.

When US Treasury extended the deadline on the implementation of the UIGEA, Senator Kyl of Arizona decided to retaliate. Reports indicate that he is delaying appointments for officials in finance and tax policies because he was a strong believer in the UIGEA.

Clearly this Senator has a bad case of sore loser and the only purpose his antics have served is to annoy fellow congress members and to alienate himself from others who oppose online gambling. There is speculation that he is worried the UIGEA doesn’t have a leg to stand on and postponing it until June 2010 means it will be less likely to pass. The real reason the Act was postponed is so that moderators could make a more informed decision; they simply need more time to process the potential outcomes.

If the UIGEA was thrown out, US banks, casino operators and many others would be very relieved. Many states are currently considering the regulation of online casinos simply for the benefit they have towards the local economy. After difficult economic times, regulated online casinos may be just what the US needs to pick themselves back up.
