It has been a long time coming but Barney Frank’s online gambling bill (HR 2267) will finally get the attention it deserves next Tuesday. After spending months trying to gain support for legalized online gambling, Senate will finally review the bill that could repeal the current ban on the activity: the UIGEA.
On Tuesday, July 27, HR 2267 will undergo the markup process, as American lawmakers discuss and amend the bill’s current demands. During the process, committee members can make the necessary amendments to make the Internet Gaming Regulation bill a successful model for legalized gambling throughout the country.
There are still many more motions that the bill needs to go through before finds its way into the House of Commons. Several lawmakers are fighting for the implementation of the stop-loss limit, but that seems to an issue that Frank is not willing to budge on.
Industry insiders are hoping that the online gambling will be legalized before the end of the year, but there is still a long road ahead. However, the industry, as a whole, should be satisfied at the bill being marked up next week, as it is a sign that the American government is leaning towards the possibility of legalizing and regulating online gambling.
