Supreme Court Puts Casino Decision on Hold

Not long ago, Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear attempted to seize the domain names of all online casino operators in the state. He claimed that all 141 sites were operating illegally but before he could go through with his motion, the Appeals Court put an end to his plans. This battle is an indication of how divided the country is when it comes to online gambling.

Once the Appeals Court cancelled the seizing of domain names, Beshear vowed to take his case all the way to the Supreme Court. They were to make their ruling on January 21st but have since pushed the date to the middle of March, 2010. Every state in the US is holding their breath waiting for the decision to see which way the Supreme Court will go. Their decision may influence what other confused states will do and the suspense is growing.

Should the Supreme Court not make a decision by March, a new date, which has already been set, will take over as the deadline. In fact, there is a date every month for the rest of 2010 set aside, just in case the Supreme Court needs more time to make their decision.

Online casino operators, especially those who experienced problems as a result of Governor Beshear’s attempt, are hoping that the Supreme Court votes their way and that they will be vindicated.
