Still No Decision on Legalization of Online Gambling

Battles continue in the US over the decision to legalize online gambling licenses in the US. Those who oppose online gambling believe that it will lead to many people making poor decisions that will leave them in financial ruin while pro gamblers believe that Americans should have the right to decide how to spend their money.

President Obama is known for being anti-online gambling but approved the delay of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) for six months. Those in favor of regulated internet gambling hope that those six months will buy Representative Barney Frank some time to put together a winning argument. However, supporters should not get excited too soon, as Obama seems very hesitant to repeal the bill.

If the UIGEA goes into full effect, it will be illegal for credit card companies to process any payments to or from online casinos and would therefore put US players in a tight spot when it comes to gambling online. The next five and a half months will consist of a lot of back and forth arguing, many political meetings and eventually they will come to a decision. As it stands, Obama is unlikely to agree with Barney Frank and oppose the UIGEA.
