British Columbia is considered the first Canadian province to legalize online gambling. Although the province is currently experiencing a setback in the online gambling industry, they are expected to have the problem sorted out quickly. In the meantime, Ontario is looking to BC as an example.
Legislators in Ontario are considering online gambling as a major economic boost, as well as a way to keep a watchful eye over Ontario residents who are already gambling online. Regulating the industry means that the provincial government is able to follow online gambling statistics and provide solutions to problems as they arise, instead of much later when it is harder to fix.
Quebec is another province who recently legalized online gambling by offering options through the provincial lottery. As more provinces consider making this move, Ontario will likely do so sooner rather than later. The idea is to use the extra revenue to trim down the $20 billion deficit in as little time possible.
There is no word on what the reaction will be among Ontario citizens as the idea is just in the works. However, it is likely just a matter of time before Ontarians will have the option of legalized online gambling and the province will have to implement its own strategies on how to handle any problems that arise from it.
