New Jersey Moves One Step Closer to Legalized Online Gambling

Atlantic City, the second gambling capital of the US (next to Las Vegas), is moving toward legalized online gambling via New Jersey. The state has had concerns as the popularity of online gambling rose and Atlantic City began to lose money. The worry is that online gambling would take over and leave land-based gambling in the dust.

The plans are to have blackjack, baccarat, craps and other casino favorites available to US residents online. This is in spite of the recent implementation of the UIGEA. Atlantic City, and the entire state of New Jersey desperately needed a boost to their economic situation and online gambling appears to be the answer.

The bill that was recently introduced will allow Atlantic City’s 11 casinos to add websites so that patrons may gamble online. The sites will, of course, be regulated by the state of New Jersey who will closely monitor the proceedings.

This bill came not a moment too soon since it will allow New Jersey to reap the mainly financial benefits of the regulated online gambling industry. In addition to revenue, the bill also means the creation of jobs for New Jersey residents, which will also improve the state’s economy.

Other states will not be seeing this bill reflected within their own state unless legislators make it happen. The regulation of online gambling will not cross state lines; the newly passed bill is for New Jersey only.
