A New Jersey Senator has introduced a bill that would legalize online gambling as early as this year. With the rest of the US seemingly at a standstill, New Jersey is forging ahead with their plans. Many who are in favor of legalized online gambling in the US believe that if one state passes the bill, others will follow. Currently, California, Iowa and Florida are all aiming to legalize online gambling but it looks like New Jersey is the first to take a giant step forward.

Experts in the online gambling industry are thrilled with New Jersey’s attempt to legalize online gambling and say that the state is highly recognized for their part in the land-based casino industry. Legalizing online gambling simply means that they are moving forward, along with technology and want to give citizens the chance to choose their preferred gambling outlet.

In order for the bill to be passed, it must go through several branches within the state government. Assuming that happens, operators will have to spend $200,000 annually on a New Jersey operating license, in addition to any other fees that go with running an online casino each year.

The proposed bill also states that the industry needs to be government regulated in order to protect the citizens of New Jersey. It also needs to account for issues such as gambling addiction, underage gambling, debit or credit card abuse/fraud.
