The state of Iowa is making serious headway in their quest to become the first US state with legalized online gambling. State representatives are pushing the bill forward because they hope to lead the rest of the country to make the same move.
Iowa is popular for claiming that 50,000 residents already gamble online. They feel it would be safer for those people if the industry was legalized and regulated. Regulation would make it easier to track players’ habits, intervene where necessary and stamp certain operators as researched and approved for authenticity and fairness.
Iowa state officials are concerned that unregulated online poker sites plant players to bluff their way through the game and ensure that the operator doesn’t pay out to many winners. They are hopeful that the bill will be passed sometime this year and say there is a one in four chance that it will happen. As long as the public is educated properly on what legalized online gambling means for the state and its residents, representatives are optimistic that the online casino industry will win skeptics over.
There are a great number of people who are vehemently against legalized online gambling in Iowa and it is unclear how far their voice will go in the decision-making.
Online gambling is not only an appropriate option for a democratic nation; it will also lend significant revenue which can go a long way in funding much-needed services.
