The subject of gambling in Iowa has come up time and time again as some legislators are keen to move forward while others remain opposed to the idea. Nevertheless, a bill was brought to the table several months ago and has been debated ever since.
Legislators cannot come to an agreement concerning Iowa’s gambling laws. Too many different opinions are swirling around making it very hard to focus on one point. In the beginning those in favor of online gambling wanted everything that online casinos had to offer: slots, card tables, roulette etc.
Now, however, the spotlight has been turned to regulated online poker. Legislators claim that they do not have enough support to vote in favor of legalized, regulated online gambling. They hope that starting small with online poker will allow everyone enough time to get used to the idea. Once the state begins reaping the benefits of legalized online gambling, the hope is that everyone will see how the money, generated through taxes, will go to improve the state.
Unfortunately, as talks continue it looks as though legalized online poker will not make the cut for 2010. Iowa was hoping to be the first state to legalize online gambling but there are several other states looking for the same title. Unless they come to an agreement quickly, it appears as though Iowa is out of this race.
