Courts Agree to Online Gambling Restrictions

The European Union has imposed restrictions and laws that will help them to effectively regulate the online gambling industry. Each member of the EU is allowed to deviate slightly from the regulations they have set out as long as they remain on the same wavelength.

Some EU members require offshore online casino operators to purchase licenses annually that will allow them to operate legally in the country. At first, the argument was made that these restrictions were in violation of the Free Trade Agreement set in place by the European Union. Now, however, the Court of Justice has ruled that each country will be allowed to govern online gambling laws themselves.

Certainly, European Union members are happy with this decision because it allows them to maintain some element of control over the online gambling industry. Free Trade would mean that the financial benefits of legalized online gambling would decrease since the revenue would be split among so many operators. This way, EU members are able to weed out the fraudulent operators and help ensure the online gambling safety of their citizens.

Reputable online casino operators are not upset by the change in laws because authentic online casinos were already submitting operating licenses to the foreign countries in which they wanted to operate. Therefore, both sides are content with the ruling by the Court of Justice.
