California Moves Closer to Online Poker

The state of California, who currently follows the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) just like the other states in the US, is ready to move forward with online poker. State representatives understand that there is a lot of money in online gambling and has the potential to generate a great deal of money that can go to improving any public systems that require more money.

The California state senate recently held an information session where presenters discussed the advantages and disadvantages of legalized online poker. The audience consisted of some adamant groups of people who oppose this plan including: anti-gambling activists, gambling analysts and land-based casino representatives, as well as government officials and members of the Poker Players’ Alliance (PPA).

Millions of US citizens continue to gamble online even though the UIGEA has made it illegal. Those in favor of legalized online gambling, especially poker, insist that regulating the activity will help to control the way people gamble.

California representatives are hoping that further information into their plans and ideas for legalizing online poker will help to ease the concerns of the aforementioned groups. This meeting was just a preliminary start to legalized online poker proceedings but those in favor of legalized online poker in California are hoping that it put some concerns to rest.
