PlaytechDespite the recession that has negatively affected the internet’s biggest industries, the online gambling market thrived in 2009, thanks to the innovative and ground-breaking software provided by top designers.

Microgaming and PlayTech were at the top of their game this year, pumping out new games every month. Prohibiting access to American players did not seem to hinder them at all, as their continuous flow of game launches intrigued more customers throughout Europe and Asia. Recently, Microgaming released its 300th slot game, making it one of the most prolific designers on the market, while PlayTech ended the year by acquiring the popular betting designer GTS.

Cryptologic, designer for InterCasino, has also seen a successful year. With the launch of several new Marvel Superhero slots, this popular online casino developer appealed to a unique audience and brought a new population of players to the online gambling industry. Cryptologic’s Batman slot was even named “Game of the Year” by several online gaming authorities and watchdog groups.

These companies demonstrate a business model that should be adopted by all software designers, by continually releasing new games to pique the interest of their fans and players. Many online casino designers fell to the wayside this year, as they refrained from launching software, losing the support of Canadian customers who are always looking for something new.

Cryptologic, Micgrogaming and PlayTech will certainly carry their success into the new year, but only time will tell if the rest of the industry will follow suit.
