History of Microgaming Slots

Today, Microgaming is one of the biggest producers of online slots games, creating some of the most innovative software that the online gambling community has to offer. Established in 1995, the company has steadily climbed to its position at the top of the industry, designing a wide range of ground-breaking games along the way.
In 1997, two years after the company was launched, Microgaming had its first hit game: Fantastic Sevens. Although it was simply modeled after land-based slot games, Microgaming was still determined to revolutionized the online slots industry – and it did. In 1998, Cash Splash was launched. It was the first wide area progressive slot game on the internet. From that point on, it was a steady incline for Microgaming.
In 2002, Microgaming set the world record for the largest online jackpot, when Major Millions paid out more than €1 million to one lucky player. This was the push that Microgaming needed to encourage the company to take their software development one step further. In 2003, they upgraded to Viper software and released Thunderstruck and Mega Spin, two of the internet’s most popular online slots games.
In 2004, Microgaming also became the first to introduce mobile casino games with Double Magic, an online slots game made specifically for mobile phones. One year later, the company released the internet’s first-ever branded slot game with Tomb Raider. The game was an instant success and paved the way for many other software developers.
The next 5 years saw a continuous flow of success. By 2006, Microgaming’s now massive jackpot network had paid out more than €150 million in prizes. From 2007 to 2008, a steady stream of games were released, from Hitman, Microgaming’s second branded slot game, to MySlot, the internet’s first fully customizable casino game.
In 2009, Microgaming reached two landmarks, as the company launched its 300th slots game and its 400th casino game. With a past as impressive as that, Microgaming’s future certainly is bright – so be on the lookout for more great innovations from this software designer.
